Leaking dampers

Post by Bit of Both »

Hi
Can anyone tell me what can be done to repair leaking dampers? Is there a kit that one can use to repair these dampers?

Thanks

Unfortunately the only way to repair them is to exchange them for reconditioned ones, or you can buy new rear ones from here,

You can buy the replacement front seals quite easily, they are 27mm dia, 17mm bore by 5mm thick.

I have actually devised way of repairing rear dampers that involves the use of a router, a drill press and a method the same set up as the way a half shaft uses a O ring to create the oil seal. I have repaired one of my rears and am currently road testing it. I will take some photos when I do the other and do a writeup so I can create a thread on how to do a DIY repair.

How bad is the leak - if the bearings are worn, new seals won't help. Heavier oil will leak less! Try a fill with SAE 40.
