Winter protection

Post by madasa »

Hi
Am hoping I can get some advice here please.
We bought our Moggie in April and he has been used frequently since then.
I am guessing I will use him less when weather very bad i.e. grit/salt on roads.
I can't garage him but want to protect him.
Can anybody recommend a good cover or are those carcoon things any good?
I have a fair bit of space on the drive and I don't mind paying a lot for something decent.
Many thanks

is it possible you could erect a car port?as that will keep rain off and when you come home with the car wet it allows plenty of breeze to dry it off, much better then a garage if using your car through the winter

My Coverzone was a disaster - it disintegrated when the sun shone on it......

I have a Stormforce car cover for my traveller. It wasnt cheap but compared to covers I have used in the past it is excellent.

I'm in a similar position to you madasa - My mechanic has today treated the underneath of mine with Schutz stone chip protection. Mine had previously been wax oiled in parts but not by me so she's had the full treatment today before we get the salt and grit put down for peace of mind. I have a cover but not sure what Brand / Make as it was supplied with the car when I bought her a few months back.
She's had a new battery and her choke looked at today also as she was being a bit juttery at 6am each morning since the cold weather arrived.
I use my Moggy every day but wont be when the snow is here. No chance of any car portal here. Just gotta get one with it and hope for the best. Mine will be 48 yrs old in Jan 2014. I guess when she was new they didn't do all this to her then - they just got on with it so - wish me luck x

Thank you for your replies.

I think I will take my chances with a coverzone/stormforce ...I think they are guaranteed for 2 years so will return it if it disintegrates and go to plan b (no idea what plan b is yet)

Graham we do have room to erect a car portal I guess, but getting round to it is another matter, could bear that in mind for the future though. If him indoors didn't fill up the garage with his motorbikes we wouldn't have this problem!

Good luck Marmitechops...my moggie will be 50 next March.

Thanks again
