Wax (oyling) lyrically

Post by Daddsie »

Cut out a section of chassis from the van at the weekend due to the old metal worm.

I was shocked to find a lovely rust brown colour everywhere, so what! I hear you say. Well I had injected nearly 15 ltrs of Waxoyl into the chassis etc 15 months ago, where did it go?

There was about an eight of an inch of solidifield Waxoyl sitting on top of the rust in the bottom of the chassis member, there must be another way of wasting my money!

Waxoyl

Waxoyl is an excellent preserver of box sections and sill areas etc
but is not a miracle product. You are supposed to apply it straight
after a rebuild or when the car is not too old. You cannot inject it
into thirty year old nooks and crannies and expect it to cure all the
rust problems which are ALREADY THERE. I have used it on five
rebuilds over twenty five years and consider it to be the most
effective body preserver on the market.

I appreciate that Willie, but I had thinned it down a bit and it was applied in the late summer so I thought that it would have perculated down to base metal.

I injected the Waxoyl with the their kit, what do you use Willie?

waxoyl

I have used their own spray kit twice but find that it tends to never
work efficiently after the first days use! despite cleaning it out
with white spirit. The most efficient applicator would seem to be
a 'paraffin gun' attachment for use with a compressor. On a hot day
I have seen Wayoyl which was sprayed into newly rebuilt sill sections
ooze, within an hour, from the apparently solid spot welded bottom
flanges, so its creeping capabilities are unquestioned. Your heavily
corroded box sectoins must have been really clogged up with years
of rusty crud.

Daddsie, I've used a cavity wax-oil product (in spray can form) produced by Comma. It is much thinner than Fennigans Waxoyl, and flows into the nooks and crannies.

I also us it to protect the chrome work over winter. I don't think I'd go back to Fennigans after using it.
