Hi

I need advice regarding my 948 engine. My engine was rebuilt with new pistons, ring, bearings and valves, air filter, spark plugs, and points/condenser. If I set my timing according to the manual she runs fine but has two problems. The first is that she would cut out as soon as you take your foot of the accelerator. If started without using the accelerator, she would idle. The second one is that on going downhill she would start making a clapping sound.

sounds retarded,the Clapping sound is probably a soft misfire caused by the engine being slightly retarded,just do BM trick of advancing untill pinking and the take it back bit by bit.

First check if the vacuum advance is working - suck it and see....... 'Setting the timing' is useless - you have no idea where to set it for modern fuels. As above - 'not quite pinking' is the best you can do.
