Do you think this is pricey?

Post by woodiesenfrance »

There's a 1968 convertible for sale in the north of France, just south of Boulogne, for 17,000 euros. That's around £14-15,000, depending on the exchange rate.
I haven't investigated whether it's an original or a chop-top.
Here's the link

For a French buyer, the vendor says it is now on French plates in his name so no re-registration costs.

we on this Forum are realy not allowed to comment on the prices (never stoped us before)
however reading between the lines on your post i think you already know the answer
as to the originality of the car more inside photos are required also the(vin) plate chassis number which will be stated on the reg documents will show the factory status at the time of manufacture of the car
look out for other replies on here later

Pardon my French but I think the phrase is "c’est trop cher"

Are we not allowed to comment? I'm sure I've seen comments in here about other 'external' ads, i.e. not those placed on the messageboard.
Actually it was a genuine enquiry as to Joe Public's views. I had a long chat about prices with a French classic car dealer on 'our' centenary stand in September, very interesting.
Yes, I do know how to id a Minor, as I said I don't happen to have contacted the vendor to find out.

It's a touchy subject with the moderators, certainly if it was advertised on here we are not allowed to say it's too expensive unless we intend to buy the vehicle in question, it might upset the vendor who might sue I guess.
I think the same applies to Ebay too, which is external.
Hard to be sure, Newspeak is the order of the day, double plus ungood IMHO!

Not allowed to comment on prices??? I think I've made plenty of comments on here in the past on the subject of overpriced classics and what I think the motivation behind it is...................

Its difficult to comment really - a car may be overpriced for the UK market, but in France the prices may be totally different. Parts prices in France are certainly much higher than in the UK (For example, a transit wheel bearing ~£40 here, ~290 Euro there :o )

I will give you an example... my N Reg Transit (in excellent nick) is worth about £1500 here - if I were to export it to france (and I am told this by people in France, on the transit forum) it would be nearer £4000 :o.

It would almost certainly be more economical to buy a car in the UK and then import it in to France!

Could this be where stolen vehicles are going?

Food for thought.

Watch out for gangs of French onion sellers pedalling through our streets!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

That certainly applies to high end stuff, BMWs and Mercedes, any reason to think classics are going the same way?
