It's coming to the time when I need to put back all the glass into my 2 door saloon. I have read various horror stories on various threads regarding leaks, presence or otherwise of metal clips, sealant or not, the right kind of washing line to pull the seals over the metal lips, etc. etc.
I'd be grateful for top tips on fitting each piece of glass please? I thought I might start with the side windows because they look easier but am I deluded?
I have not put the minor back in yet but have done plenty of other cars, sharp corners are usually the most difficult areas to do so I would start with the front or rear screen. You really need 2 people, one to push from the outside (not too hard, just enough to stop it moving around) and another to pull the seal over the lip inside. Once it is in you can add a bead of sealer between the seal and body and glass and seal if you wish then feed in the finishing strip to tighten the seal up, there is a special tool for this .
For the cord I use some with a diameter of around 4mm, to thin and it cuts the seal, I don't remember any metal clips when I removed the glass on mine , the above applies to a single piece screen, if you have a split screen I have no experince.
When doing the windscreen, by all means, resist the temptation to finish pulling the cord in the middle of the car. The glass will crack just as you pull the last bit out. Progress so you end in the area of one of the corners.
For the rear one you need a very strong assistant. It's a bit stubborn to get started.
The 2 doors have some metal clips, but I don't recall an issue.

How do you get the finisher in, I have a chrome piece and was scared to push any harder as I was sure I was about to bend it?
What is the tool like?
The screen was not to bad to get in though a very hard tug was required at the end and we had the proper tool to pull the string through.
