Possibly the wrong area but oil light staying on..

Post by kattweaver »

Uh-oh, sorry if it's the wrong area for this question.
But advice needed pleasseee, the oil light on my traveller is staying on, I've changed the oil filter and the oil and tried to clean the sensor, I'm wondering if it could be something up with the electrics? but is there anything else likely to be causing this problem? :o

It could be a faulty sensor - does it NEVER go off? Are there ominous rattling noises from the engine??

If you're not getting nasty clunks and rattles from the engine it could be as simple as a failed sender. Try a new sender and if still happening hook up an oil pressure gauge to check.

Was the oil light on before you changed the oil or has it just started happening?

The oil light was on before we changed the oil!

I may look into the sensor then, thank you!

Just to confirm - if you take the wire connection off the sensor - is the light out then? Just in case there IS NO oil pressure, you really shouldn't run the engine until you know it's all ok......
