Door advice please.....

Post by DAVE LOVELL »

Hi.......

I've been trying to fit series two doors (all four )to my '58 project .Although I can't see or measure any difference in doors or hinges, they simply don't want to fit !
I've tried various combinations of hinges ,but even the front doors seem different.I can see there is a slight curvature difference to the rear door tops, can I just swap the tops over to achieve a fit ? I've got so many hinges and dismantled doors that I've lost my way a bit..!

Any advice would be most gratefully received..........Ta.....Dave

The top window frames can be swapped about/bent to make them fit. Just get the main body of the door fitting nicely - then worry about the frames later.

I agree, the hinges show significant variations, and I have had lots of 'fun' trying various ones for their effect on door fit. I've removed paint (where it will not be seen) smoothed the backs of hinges by grinding, and hammered the area where the hinges fit onto the pillar, etc.

Yes, the stainless window frames can be much adjusted later for fit, using a hammer and block of wood. They can also be bent inwards or outwards too with same block of wood! The sliding glass just follows the felt strip within the frame. Phil
