Having stripped my poor moggie down its now time to patch the many holes. Having done so on much younger vehicles i have normally used 0.9mm mild steel with a zinc coating.
With the morris's unuseral structural setup will i be ok still using this guage metal or would i need to use thicker like 1.2mm?
Thanks

Re: metal thickness
0.9 is still quite thick - plenty thick enough for most areas, but perhaps not where eg the rear spring front mounts will attach - places like that. Zinc coating is not good - it will give you serious 'flu' symptoms when you breathe in the fumes as you weld it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_fume_fever

Re: metal thickness
Thanks for the quick responce. I'll get some 0.9mm mild steel and start filling in those holes.
I did not know about zinc giving off a toxic gas when welded, however thinking about it it is fairly obvious. I has seen the zintec sheets and thought that they might be a good idea.

Re: metal thickness
I'm with Roy...avoid, avoid. avoid zinc coating.....nasty , nasty, nasty stuff when you weld ( especially without proper breathing apparatus ).

You can lightly grind the zinc off the areas to be welded if you prefer. What ever you do the metal will need treating when finished.
Re: metal thickness
It depends where you are putting the metal. Doors etc .6 is about right, chassis 1.2 and if you have to do any forming of the metal to shape it don't get too heavy as it is quite difficult to bend where you want it. Heavier is a lot easier to weld though.
As BMC says .9 is still quite think and you will have a bit of trouble cutting it with a pair of snips
