Is this an original colour

Post by stevecrask »

Hi I am trying to find out the original colour of my 1961 4 door. The present colour is to found every where on the car including the bits that would not normally be sprayed.
Thanks

Doesn't look like a colour that was used in 1961. Although photos can be deceiving it looks like Teal Blue - used on the last Travellers. You might have some luck by looking under the dashboard or inside the glove box lids esp if you have the wooden inserts as sometimes these were painted body colour :D

As its a 61 that colour looks like it could be Yukon Grey, the same as mine which is also a 61, 4 door.

It looks a lot like the Blue that the post office sprayed their vans with before they were sold on.
Might be ex-GPO or ex-postman with good connections :)

Could also be Smoke Grey (Light Blue) - this website from the Potteries Branch might be useful in helping to work out what the original colour was http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identify.htm , alternatively, you can buy a Heritage certificate from the British Motor Industry Museum at Gaydon http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ ... -services/ which will also tell you when it was built, dispatched (and who to) and what relevant trim, gearbox and diff numbers were :-)
