Series mm Hinges
I'm looking for a pair of Series mm bonnet hinges(long bonnet type) NOS or in very good condition or in a state that if they were re-chromed would look up to spec.

Re: Series mm Hinges
Mike, they are not at least the ones I have on mine aren't. If you have the hinge in the closed position & then open it on the Morris 1000 there is a dome on the smaller part of the hinge & this is not present on mine, food for thought

Re: Series mm Hinges
The hinges on both my cars have the dome. I did not know that Series MM hinges did not have a dome. Well that is something I have learnt today
What is the purpose of them?

Re: Series mm Hinges
Well that's a new one on me too! Does Mr Newell have anything on this? All I can guess is that they help locate the top part of the hinge when closed and help prevent shaking and rattling, perhaps reducing wear on the hinge pin? Just a guess. My MM is short bonnet but, I have a spare long bonnet that I think has hinges, I will look through next time I'm in the garage.

Re: Series mm Hinges
For some strange reason there is no info on the bonnet and hinges in the Series MM Parts list despite showing a complete breakdown of the boot lid assembly.
The Series II/948 Parts List shows the hinges as ADA 897/898 but does not list any changes

Re: Series mm Hinges
I have an old new bonnet hinge for an MM and it has no bulges on it. Bought it in 1972.The numbers cast inside the long part of the hinge are: 7/2627/3. WBB. The long bonnet hinges I have are numbered 7/4918/4 on the short bit and 7/4916/3. WB. Birmingham on the long part of the hinge. No bulges on that either. The bulges could be for giving the studs more metal to go into.

Re: Series mm Hinges
the ones I have are long bonnet but after inspection are only suitable for rechroming. the boot hinges are newer type and have no chrome left on them. I only kept them in case something broke. You can have them if you want. cheers smithskids

Re: Series mm Hinges
Regarding the bonnet hinges mine have to be rechromed possibly yours are in better nic than mine, what do you want for them?
Regarding the boot hinges you say later type by that I assume Morris 1000 style,if that is the case I already have some which are in good nic.
Thanks

Re: Series mm Hinges
Hello Brian R. Looking at the pictures of your bonnet hinges they are in far better condition than the ones I have . Mine are only suitable for re-chroming. If you want them the cost of the postage is required only. They weigh 485 grms. Regards Iain.

Re: Series mm Hinges
Mike weren't the dome hinges tried as earlier ones fractured and these had extra strength that is what I am led to believe

Re: Series mm Hinges
I will have a look through my box of spares to see if I can find my original hinges.

Re: Series mm Hinges
Ive noticed that the earlier bonnet hinge is also on my 54 and Davids 63, so could it be that it was used up until the exterior changes at the end of 63 when the pointy boot hinges also changed?
