So could I,and I have!

And his answer.

""Unfortunately I do not know the history of the car, however it is registered as a 1955 pickup.
I have taken down the chassis number 'OFJ11/34005'. I dont know if that helps you or not.""

That number he said is on the chassis plate, which is easily swapped,so ive asked him for the number stamped into the bulkhead, and told him where to find it.
Also asked if he knows the cab number!

Well - I suppose a 'later cab' could explain it......but effectively the 'cab' is the bodyshell and it could be argued it should have retained it's original (much later) Reg number - but then again, it has a separate chassis....(but is it the original chassis ??) and so rightly it can retain the original early Reg number! I quite like it! Good practical/low cost run-about.

If the seperate chassis has no id marks stamped on it,MAU5 etc, then its just a part of the whole, and for DVLA reasons the cab is the identity.
Would be interesting to know when the work was done on it,as if it was done before a certain date, then the DVLA rules were different!
Problems could arise with your insurance company if you make a claim, and they realise its not quite right!!

Much easier to repair the old cab rather than change it surely?

If it's on a '55 chassis there's an easy way to check.

Any joy obtaining the cab nos.?

For the DVLA the cab is irrelevant... as it has a seperate chassis. If it was a car it would be an entirely different situation

See the DVLA 8 point system.

Does the chassis carry the chassis number stamped into it,to prove its genuine?

The MMOC authenticate LCVs solely on a chassis number?

Disturbing for LCV owners.

It makes a lot of sense for a commercial vehicle to be re-bodied... You used to be able to buy Rolls-Royce and other expensive cars as just a chassis, for your own body to be fitted.

Quite a few LCV`s have had a better cab or new chassis fitted over the years. My pickup is a bit like Triggers broom, and is probably one of the ones that Pomreg described as a ringer after he examined it at the National. They were working vehicles, and if the cab was getting rough and a better one came along, the owner just changed it.The cab on mine came without the provision for a passenger sunvisor, there is no hole for it.Also it has been registered as a pickup from new but the body number begins MAW and not MAU and has been since new as I have a photocopy of the original logbook.
