Piaggio Avanti P180

Post by philthehill »

Whilst in the Milton Keynes area on Tuesday lunchtime I saw the strangest of aircraft pass overhead. Doing a search on the web it appears to have been a Piaggio Avanti P180 11. I have never seen one before and it seems to be a bit of a rarity in the UK. For propulsion it has two turbo prop engines with pusher propellers and in addition to the main wings it has two small wings/planes on the front like a Euro Fighter. Did anyone else see it pass overhead? It was quite low and easily seen.

Just had four War Birds fly over the house in loose formation. Got the binoculars out and they had the same shape as a Curtis P40 Kittyhawk with the landing gear down but difficult to confirm exactly what they were.
I am fortunate to live under a route taken by many old aircraft going too and from air shows.
The Hurricane passed over on its way to the Bournemouth Air show and the Lancaster passed overhead a few days earlier on its way back home.
My greatest memory relating to old aircraft is seeing a Spitfire and a ME109 which circled twelve times over the house awaiting to be called into Middle Wallop Airshow with the Spitfire just behind the ME109 as if to say I could shoot you down anytime I want to. It was tea time and I refused to partake of tea whilst these two plane were overhead. The same ME109 a few months later crashed killing the pilot. I am not aware of a ME109 now flying.
See http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/displayinfo/ and follow the news link to give anticipated times for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft passing overhead on their way to and from air shows/displays etc.
