Not a pleasant afternoon with a bypass hose.
Just fitted a new ribbed silicone bypass hose as I have read that the new rubber ones are junk, what a pain that was, quite a lot of blood on the job and I will only be counting up to nine for a day or two. Next time I think the water pump may be coming off.

Ribbed hose is a mistake - silicone or not....... Be sure to carry a spare.......

That's interesting I went for the ribbed silicone on the recommendation of others who have used them and had no problems.bmcecosse wrote:Ribbed hose is a mistake - silicone or not....... Be sure to carry a spare.......

I know the feeling I changed mine only two years ago and it was a bugger to fit .I had to remove it two weeks ago to repair my radiator after a lorry threw up a stone and punctured it , the hose was a bitch to get off and the same to refit and it's showing signs of cracking / perishing on the ends already !

I think the best thing is a bit of good quality heater hose. Much better than the corrugated type but it does mean taking the water pump off to fit of course...

It is a terrible job...
+1 for the heater hose cut to suit, for one it's much cheaper and usually lasts longer.
I do have a concertina hose but this is carried in the car for emergencies only.

Why do you need to take the bypas hose off to remove the radiator?

If you thought that was hard the bypass hose is going to be a real challenge!

Off to Chatsworth tomorrow for the East Midlands Regional Rally so that should be a good test.
