The other terminals are for a 2-speed wiper, which is much more complicated. Partly because it is 2-speed and partly because the park circuit is separate. The Minor has the switch on the 'earth' side, but the 2-speed and most other wipers have it on the supply side.

having recently driven in persistent light rain, and become fed up with switching on/off all the time - I was considering something like this. Looking at the diagrams above - the Maplins unit doesn't mind whether it sees +12v or -12v on the inlet ??

Yes instructions say its suitable for either.

Just worth saying,its a bit of a numb lump once built.If I were to do another I wouldnt fit the switch on the board but would use wire extensions to its terminals so the switch could be sited seperately.

Another alternative: If you put a simple push button in parallel w/the dashboard wiper switch it will cause the wipers to make a single sweep when you push it. Much easier than switching on/off all the time.

Cant see the difference switching the wipers on or this extra button method.Ones pulling ones pushing.With the module its automatic?

Problem solved - coating of Rain-X means no more switching - or pushing......

Hello all,
I've fitted the Maplins Velleman intermittent kit to my clap hands Minor and its great. As BMC says, its very tedious in light drizzle to keep pulling the wiper switch on and off all the time. The kit has a rotary knob for 5, 10, and 15 seconds delay so I use the old "W" switch for continuous wiping and turn the Maplins one on when I want intermittant. They don't seem to confuse each other so at least I wired it up correctly.
To keep things looking original and because the Velleman is a funny old lump to mount, I put the circuit board in a plastic electrical mounting box mounted well back under the dash and then extended the rotary knob forward with a sort of miniature prop shaft arrangement to sit on a small bracket in a similar fashion to the push/pull heater valve cable. ie mounted off that flange under dash. Its much smaller and unobtrusive that way yet easy to feel and find without any problems. Good to see a circuit diagram shown in the post to fit it to a minor's wiring. That's the bit that lets the kit down in my opinion.

Had a little play this morning and sorted out the use of the headlight 2-postion switch to give 'Off', 'Intermittent', 'On' for the wipers. There is a much simpler circuit, but it leaves the Maplins/Velleman circuit switched on all the time when the wipers are in 'On' mode, which is not really a good idea.

You will need 1 4-pin relay and 1 5-pin 'changeover' relay for this circuit - make sure you get the correct 5 pin relay as there are a number of different configurations.

To use this circuit, turn the Velleman circuit on so that the new wiper switch can actually turn it on when required for 'intermittent', and turn it off all other times. ?Use a default time interval of 5 seconds?
