1966 2 dr saloon. Trouble with indicators , source faulty flasher units. One cheap unit lit up indicators but not warning light, another lit indicators but warning lamp stayed on permanently. Have borrowed genuine old stock Lucas flasher unit and all works. Anybody know of modern flasher units which can be relied on? Also twice a year (MOT UK and National Rally ) I tow a folding camper (Conway Challenger). I have connected the rear trailer flashers to the existing flashers in the boot with Scotchlok connectors but now realise this increases the normal 2 x 21watt + 5 watt warning light that the flasher unit was designed for? Is there a modern electronic unit which will feed the indicators, green warning light on the stalk and a trailer flasher?

It's not strictly legal now to connect the trailer flashers like that. You are supposed to use a special unit that warns you if the trailer flashers are not working.... This should work ok for your car flashers.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/502096-Land-R ... 564a76d5f0

When towing a trailer legally you should have either a visual (on the dash) or audible indication the trailer is attached when indicating (i.e. a buzzer connected to the indicators or a lamp on the dash).

Having said that... my vans are wired up without either

I have an electronic unit from Vehicle Wiring Products and it does both standard lights and trailer (I have a separate bumper assembly with towbar and push-in bullet connectors). It also does hazard lights for the car (and trailer if connected) - needs a couple of relays and a switch to get the hazards to work.

The trailer lights are connected to the standard rear lights via the bullet connectors and the unit senses the additional current draw to create an audible warning. 2 to choose from:

RFL6 that has terminal for a separate trailer repeater light. The standard repeater light is assumed to be across the LH and RH circuits, not supplied from the flasher unit.

RFL7 that has terminals for the standard flasher repeater light (as the original flasher 'can') and separate terminal for the trailer repeater light.

I have a towing flasher unit from Halfords on my Traveller. It has an extra earth connection and a connection for the trailer flasher warning light which I connected to the spare wire to the oil filter warning light so that the oil filter warning light on the speedo flashes (I have a cartridge conversion).
As the Series MM has trafficators and indicators I have fitted one FL9 multi load flasher on each side, no extra warning light yet

Many thanks for all your comments. I have shelved the trailer question until next years MOT UK and National as I do not see the trailer being used until then. We have a caravan and 4x4 but obviously the Minor cannot tow the caravan at 1325kg hence the folding camper for MMOC events.
Meanwhile the Minor is flashing correctly and showing the green light on the stalk thanks to a borrowed new old stock ( red box) Lucas flasher unit which if you can find one can attract a price of £20 +.The problem now is finding a reliable old style flasher so I can return the borrowed on to our Chairman. Anyone know if the modern units packaged as Lucas (green logo) are any good?[frame]Image[/frame]
