need advice on which parts i need
okay so thought i would check out the condition off the bodywork today and rust so bare with me as im going to need to know what part numbers i need to order from bull motif so i can make a start on ordering everything ready but i dont know the names off the parts so i will explain the best i can and learn at the same time.
1. between the wing and door gaps looks like the a pillars that join to the bulkhead i thing pretty rusted through
2. passenger side inner sill inside the car behind the seat belt anchor a small hole
3. both sides rear quarter sills gone
4. part off the under floor joining to the sills underneath where the leaf springs join big hole and rust but doesnt go through to the inside floor.
5. bottom part off boot floor one small hole just before the metal goes up to the petrol tank
6. both sides off the engine bar rails where the engine mounts sit
7. rear arches need replacing.
other than than its all solid and floor pan is good
any help would be great thanks

Have you taken the kick plates (sloped door steps) off yet?
The list may get longer

Re: need advice on which parts i need
seems you may be right the bottom off the slopes are rusted through so im guessing im going to have to rebuild the whole sill sections but i think the best option is to replace everything i can so i know its done.
ive got some pictures il post them up later when im home but as this is a long term restoration im not going to cut corners.

Re: need advice on which parts i need
Does sound like a very major rebuild - the car will need to be stripped down to a bare shell..... Take the 4 wings off to see what lies below.....and remove the doors. Survey the WHOLE car very carefully before you order anything - to see if it is a realistic restoration - and economically worthwhile...........

Re: need advice on which parts i need
what il do in that case is strip the whole car down and roll her on her side to see what is what but it shall be repaired no matter how bad as im really keen on this and its my first ever classic so it needs to be done properly and slowly .
all this work will start after ive finished building the garage i just need to finish the roof and install the electrics.
so only reason i ask what parts i need is because im unaware off the certain names off replacement parts needed and dont want to get it wrong so researching first seemed like a good idea.

It is a good idea - see the MOSS website which is particularly clear - but do compare costs elsewhere before buying, and look out for special offers (MOSS do these regularly - sign up for their parts list) sometimes around Christmas/New Year time when I suspect their sales volumes are low.... http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... exID=17115

Re: need advice on which parts i need
ok got some pictures not the best but give you an idea if i need to make these panels up or if they can be brought picture quality is rubbish as its my phone as ive lost the camera but hope it gives an idea of what i mean.

as you can see there's a pretty big hole underneath but its no where near the floor pan and this is the worse side .
also the side panel can you get replacements or is that a cut and remake job
thanks

Re: need advice on which parts i need
Hmmm -with that part so badly rotted - I fear for the rest of the bodyshell. I suspect you are going to be able to save v little of the original floor/chassis unit......

time to roll up the old sleeves and toil, you will have a much clearer picture if you strip the car and get some blasting done /poking done good luck

Re: need advice on which parts i need
Take a look at some of the other restoration threads on here to see how things are best done.
Don't feel you have to completely replace every rusty panel with a bought one, cardboard templates and sheet metal will save you a fortune.

Re: need advice on which parts i need
that's what i plan to do with the little bits of rust cut them right back to good metal and make templates . the worse part after having a good strip down and poke around with a hammer and chisel (very heavy handed tho ) was just the sills both sides need replacing . there's a few holes in the floor . under the sloped metal in the door shut is clean. also got the wings off and greeted with a nice big patch to do . but in all honesty i think im lucky its patches here and there so work will commence in october over the winter months.
ive marked the worse in yellow paint
here some pics off todays findings which im happy with . and il go check some projects / reading to do.

Re: need advice on which parts i need
I suspect you will find that all around these areas is 'paper thin' metal...........and there will be quite a bit of cutting back to do. Good luck with it!
