As moderators we don't really hold any more influence (from my experience) with the committee than any other member - I don't think I have actually ever spoken to any of them... Hence why I am suggesting everybody who is not happy should write too them.

As I said I am going to be writing a letter (after the Traveller 60) to ask about another issue - I may well tag the T&Cs on too for discussion at the next AGM. Basically... if you arn't happy let the committee know, if several people contact them to say the same thing its more likely to be listened too.

I may even put myself forward as a general member of the committee at some point - but right now I don't have the time.

I didn't take your comments personally - but you did (still do maybe?) seem to think us moderators have more power than we do

Paul - I agree. What in your opinion makes it less fun than it used to be? PM me if you want.

Everyone - putting the T&Cs to one side... what can we do as mods to stop the moaning and criticism of almost everything (exaggeration... but it seems like it sometimes!) and make it more fun - like it used to be?

Can somebody please look up the meaning of "fun" in the dictionary, I bet it doesn't say MMOC.

Yes Paul this thread is serious because IMHO the committee tends to favour not upsetting various traders rather than support its very important members, no members - no committee - no club, therefore down the job centre for the people who draw a salary from our membership fees.

Matt my comments were by no means a dig directly at you, but since you agree with the majority of what I said, then maybe if the moderators don't agree with certain T&Cs that they are enforcing then a word in the ear of the committee would be the way forward.
I am sure that the work the moderators do is appreciated by all on here, but surely if you are not happy with what you told to enforce and Matt based on the time and effort you are giving to the club you should ask yourself if your efforts are worth while and for the greater good of the club.
If you and the other moderators are kind enough to donate your precious time to run the forum on behalf of the committee then they should allow you to use your discretion and not be under the control of antiquated T&Cs.

Regards

Keith

Fun may of been the wrong word, but this forum, club is for like minded members and should be enjoyable... feel people take it all way to serious.. yes I agree faulty parts is a MAJOR issue, I shop around so much now for various things as learnt the hard way.... and terms and conditions should be altered re this.... but everything else is ok as it is I feel and lets all GET ON and enjoy the forum, club and try and get new blood on board as sadly we don't seem to get new members becoming active.... as a club we need enthusiasm and new blood and should be welcoming.... less negativity and more smiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul that's new owners  .I have noticed in the classic clubs I am in that a lot of older people over say the age of 50  are getting disinterested due to high prices ,insurance , and rising repair costs and just leaving there cars in the garage mothballed as investments :( .I know of one guy with one Minor van and a traveller who has just garaged them and also has an rs2000 mint and is using these as a wisely invested pension fund .

Thanks for merging Matt..I was of course just taking it personally and assuming my input was being blocked out..    Which I'm equally sure was not your intention at all... I do my best to inject 'fun' into the forum ramblings....sometimes a bit too tongue in cheek I suspect...

With regards to 'freedom of speech' there are two different issues here. Firstly, the club is fully aware of the position regarding poor quality parts and the club spares person recently posted on here to advise that he had raised the issue with various traders at Cornbury and asked them to discuss this with the manufacturers. The problem is not isolated to Minor parts only as few of the manufacturers make items exclusively for one make of vehicle - the issue will only be improved if both customers and suppliers demand better quality parts. This will invariably lead to increased prices. The club has made members aware of various poor quality parts via the club magazine (and is able to supply some better quality / NOS items via club spares) so to complain about the same thing on here isn't very productive with regards to resolving the issues. Everyone likes a moan but far better to use the energy doing something positive!

The other issue is frequent moaning about the price of advertised cars, which is really putting a lot of people off coming here. It seems to be confined to just a fairly small number of individuals but is nothing to do with ‘freedom of speech’, just the need to be respectful and polite to other members. A typical complaint we receive is “doesn’t this person do anything on here except slag off people’s cars and asking prices?” Some comments posted are personal and just plain rude. If you don’t have the slightest interest in buying a vehicle but want to express an opinion to a seller on here about their price or anything else about the car please do so via pm. And nothing wrong with posting up a link to a Minor on ebay if you think that members may be interested in the vehicle but why post a link purely to comment negatively about the price or the sellers description? You can let the seller know your opinion via the ebay messaging system if you are that bothered about it. From the complaints we are receiving it’s the negative comments that are putting people off coming here, not the lack of ‘freedom of speech’, so please have a think before posting to ensure that this forum remains as enjoyable and helpful as possible to those who visit. It's a great resource for Minor owners so hopefully all members will do their best to keep it that way and not put people off coming here.

 I haven't noticed any rude comments.Louise you say putting people off coming on here but massively overpriced cars put people off don't you think ?.The MMOC soon wont be able to carry on as young members cant afford the prices being asked and are going on to other Marques .I think you will find that a lot of non members and low post advertisers put there cars on expensively hoping true enthusiasts will pay a premium and usually are advertised on ebay at the same time and are traders

Yes prices are rising... but thats not under the control of the MMOC. A few people may get lucky selling cars at more than what they are worth - but I think the majority of people do their research when buying a classic car and will pay around the market value.

Gosh - this is a hot topic that seems to have been going on for some time (just found it mysellf). The original ad on ebay - complete with the usual poor grammor, sppelin, excetterer - would surely be enough to put anyone off parting with £10K+. I think the official term for this kind of ad is 'Flying a Kite' in the hope that some daft b****r with more money than they should have will be sucked in. Up-shot is...........their prob! :P

Interesting concept! Now, Now - boys & girls..............
Amongst all the daft cars I've ever owned - my crowning glory must be the Spilt Screen VW Double Cab pick-up. Eleven hundred cc of mobile rust that I bought from a bloke in the pub in 1970 for £11.00!!!!! I have no idea what this would be valued at now and probably best I don't know :( :( :(

Charlie

Suggest you read up on political history.

Anyway, you never sent me your minors chassis & body number, wipers would have damaged the paint on the bonnet, so couldn't take them at the rally!
