You'll have to take out the glovebox (card glovebox inserts) on both sides. Behind the dashboard there is a slot head screw that should be pretty visible, turn them 3 turns each and the speedo will be able to be pulled out. Disconnect the battery first though! And make some slack in the speedo cable.

Push some of the speedo cable through the firewall to help remove the speedo, makes it a lot easier on removal. Is it just the milometer that is not working or both this and the speedo itself? If it is just the mileometor it is nothing to do with the cable, there is damage in the speedo itself..

You may be lucky enough to free off the odometer (the numbers) but likely it has been damaged beyond repair. If the speed part still works I would leave well alone - and start looking for another good working unit meantime. It does NOT need 'oil'.

Check the drive gear cog on the mileometer. Do not oil!

What colour is the face of the speedo - and what is the tpm number on the face - very small numbers usually beside the odometer 'numbers' that are not working. Likely to be 1508 or 1408 - something like that...

It might be worthwhile to open it up. I had the same problem:

You can see the "gold" colour "lever". That ratchets the "numbers" so they move.[frame]Image[/frame]

It is held in place by a spring type circlip:[frame]Image[/frame]

With mine this is worn and the circlip fell off and the lever was sitting at an angle not able to ratchet the "numbers"

Fortunately the clip fell into the housing so I could retrieve it; I also added an additional clip (not shown in photo, I forgot to take one!) to (hopefully) keep it in place a little longer. It's now working again...
