faulty fuel pump

Post by wishiwastommy »

Hi,

Just wondering if any of you guys know a reason for why a fuel pump doesn't stop priming. The car hasn't been used in a month or two and I have added a half a tank of petrol.

Any clues would be great

Hello Mark,

I take it you mean that it doesn't stop clicking?, if a fast click then it's not drawing fuel which could be a few things, but it is likely that some rubbish is blocking the fuel line. If it is a steady click then the float valve is sticking and you are filling the engine with petrol.

If the float chamber valve is not sealing properly then you will
have petrol pouring out from the top of it(overlfow outlet). If this
is the case then you could have a foreign body stuck in there or
you could need a new needle and seating.
