Re: Side valve water jacket
ESM sell them but you may need to remortgage your house. Or to put in perspective, two Morris Minor tanks of petrol and I know which will last longer

Re: Side valve water jacket
Jonno I have two. An original one which is sound but needs bit of bolt drillling out on one of the dynamo lugs £20 plus p&p or a shiny new pattern one £35 plus p&p. Proceeds to charity. If u like u can collect from Kingston, Surrey but that will cost at least half of one of those tanks of petrol.

Hi All,
I have a 1937 Morris 8 with a Minor MM engine fitted. The water jacket disintegrated on removal - it had been leaking. Does anyone out there still have one available please? Thanks. Howard

Re: Side valve water jacket
Doesn't the dynamo on a Morris 8 bolt on to the top of the cylinder head? In which case you can use the water jacket off a WD engine which does not have a dynamo bracket and is iron so no corrosion problems.

Re: Side valve water jacket
True but the the problem is finding an ex WD one!

Re: Side valve water jacket
They are probably discarded when the alloy one is fitted. Try asking for one

Re: Side valve water jacket
you can make a blank one from a piece of flat 1/4" plate and file it to look ok on a Morris 8, and like you say the dynomo bracket bolts to the top of the cyl. head. You can also fit a series "e" head and a shorter top hose, it has a dynamo bracket cast on the RH side.
Re: Side valve water jacket
Possibly a stupid question but who do I ask? I thought that this was the best place to do so.mike.perry wrote:They are probably discarded when the alloy one is fitted. Try asking for one
Re: Side valve water jacket
I hadn't thought of that. Would the water circulation then be the same as that on the original Morris 8 engine?smithskids wrote:you can make a blank one from a piece of flat 1/4" plate and file it to look ok on a Morris 8,

Re: Side valve water jacket
My MM has been running with the alloy mounting plate blanked off with a stainless steel plate for 15 years and now it has a proper water pump it is great. No problems with over heating.

Thank you, that seems to be the best bet really and probably much cheaper than any other! Thank you to the others of you who have taken the time to reply.smithskids wrote:My MM has been running with the alloy mounting plate blanked off with a stainless steel plate for 15 years and now it has a proper water pump it is great. Re: Side valve water jacket
met an Aussie Series E owner last week who has an MM block in his E and he told me he was getting some water jackets made up in Oz, albeit without the dynamo brackets, for about $30. Asked him to see if they could also make with the brackets. Hopefully he will remember and contact me when he gets back home. He also told me about a guy who has around 20 Lowlights and Highlight MMs on his farm somewhere in NSW.

Re: Side valve water jacket
Bryan, If you come across any more ex WD engines it is probably worth removing a couple of water jackets for such circumstances. The last WD engine I had had already had it removed
