3.9 Diff
I have a 3.9 diff that is noisy to the point of unbearable. Can anyone recommend where I can get it rebuilt?

Re: 3.9 Diff
Just DIY it using the Manual as your guide...... If it has been running 'noisy' for some time - it may not be possible to eliminate the noise now since the gears will have worn into a pattern..... But it costs nothing to try!!

Re: 3.9 Diff
We will be rebuilding one on Saturday and I will document the re-assembly. I already have the photos on how we took it apart.

Re: 3.9 Diff
I have had it apart once and the bearings seem fine no play and feel smooth. It's just been getting progressively noisier. Hope it doesn't need a new CW&P as that could be pricey

Re: 3.9 Diff
Lee,
If you do want to buy a CWP, ESM charge £197.50 but without VAT. Bastuck here in Germany Charge 246.96€ incl VAT which is cheaper considering the exchange rate and our postage is a lot cheaper than UK postage.
http://www.bastuck.de/shop/index.php?ca ... 0&ug=71009
In fact it is Bastuck who is distributing CWP's throughout the world-they are having them made (China???)-and not just for Moggies!

Re: 3.9 Diff
If you do have to buy a CWP - may as well get 3.7, which will be much more valuable in the long run. But - let's see pictures of your CWP meantime !

Re: 3.9 Diff
The 3.7 is the same price and so is a 3.55, although I've never heard of anybody using a 3.55.

Re: 3.9 Diff
3.7 would be too tall a ratio for a standard 1098. I want to be able to get up the hills without bring stuck in 3rd. I like the 3.9 ratio it just takes the revs down enough. Mine cruises quite happily at 65 on the motorway.

Re: 3.9 Diff
Don,
I'll post the photos here. No guarantees as I've never done a diff before-that's the challenge. There is gearbox expert locally who will guide us if we run into any problems.
