Can anyone please enlighten me as to what this bush is in my rear wheel-arch? It appears to have been used in the past.

Is it at the rear of the wheel arch? If so then is it the remnants of the 'tie down' brackets that should be there but are often long gone?

Re: What's this?
I wonder if it's an attempted repair of the rear damper link pin.

Thanks for replies. It is close to but behind the driver's side damper link which is on the other side of the member. Katy, I can't see if there is one the other side and can't get there at the moment as the car is against the garage wall. Biggles, what were the tie-downs for?

Well my 69 Traveller still has them and I was told they were used to anchor the cars when transporting them - they're a flat steel bit that stocks down below the inner arch with a hole in, but anchored at the top end. I wondered at first glance if your picture is what it looks like behind them so to speak - but after a longer look am not so sure now....be interesting to find out what they are!

Re: What's this?
Ok, thanks. I should have mentioned that the spring and damper and its link are absent at present, which makes it more difficult for other people to visualise where this thing is.
Re: What's this?
Looks like a patch - on top of another patch....and the washer (probably to hide another hole...) was being held in place by a bolt from other side - with a nut on the washer - which was all then plastered in underseal. And then the bolt/nut have been removed.......

Re: What's this?
Actually that is quite likely in view of some of the bodges I have discovered while repairing the sills. I have to do some work in this area. My welding is not beautiful but I'm trying to be concientious...
You were right - there was nothing in there except a huge washer, rust and bad welds. I've cut all that away and am fitting a new rear spring support from ESM.
