engine numbers

can anyone tell what these numbers mean please

1, bg162rm15856
2,10.ab.u.l35889
both are 1098 engines
but from what.

They are more than likely arbitrary engine numbers allocated when remanufactured by an unknown engine rebuilder.

Sprite engine looks fine to me. It 'may' have the 206 head -or even the 295. I doubt it will hold at £60.... I only see one engine?

I'm not sure this one is a 1098.....it has a 948 backplate...and the head is obviously not the original for the engine - ask to see the other side of the block to see if it says '950'...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-Midget-Aus ... 4ac80cb78e

Don't know about the "10abu" part but I think the "l" denotes low compression.......

You keep finding them spares. :)
