I always paint the underside of any panels. The doors and bonnet have been painted inside and outside.

New heritage rear wings were used.

The paint used is Lesonal 2 pack solid, with HS420 hardener.

The colour is Smoke Grey.

All new fittings have been ordered, then the refit begins.

Looks terrific! How did you strip the wheels?

The wheels were beadblasted to remove years of paint that had built up on them..

Then I just flicked round them with my angle grinder and a knotted wire wheel to make sure they were spotless before etch priming them.

Great progress! How would you describe the Smoke Grey colour? Does it have much blue? It looks almost beige on my monitor.

It is the florescent lighting that gives it a different effect at different angles.

Get the vehicle outside and the colour then looks correct.

The colour is correct Smoke Grey as per BMC colours. I always take a lot of time getting the paint supplier to tint the colours correctly so they match the original colours from the factory.

Nothing is worse than restoring a vehicle only to arrive at a rally and find yours is not the same shade as other vehicles, which are correct.

I'm in the States so I've never seen Smoke Grey. How would you describe it?

Thanks,

Can you tell me where you get the masking paper from (if that's what it's called).

I have been restoring a early 60s Traveler and have thought about dumbing down the front grill a little.
I am thinking about replacing the vanes for a mesh grill and need the exact measurements.
I don't have my car with me at present so I'm looking for some help! Can I ask for the exact dimensions of the Morris grill, (the vanes that is)?

The mesh may not be permanent.
I'll see how it looks for a few months and may then reverse to the original look..

Many thanks,
Ennismore

The vanes give the car it's 'smile' (friendly look), never the same when something else is fitted but it's down to personal choice, of course.

Any good paint supply company in your local town will keep it in stock.
i.e I use Movac Paint Supplies, but you may have others nearby.

And also purchase a good quality masking tape 3M or the paint companies recommended brand ,cheap versions do not adhere properly and let the paint creep underneath.

Never use newspaper to cover over the car..

Its nice to bolt on new chrome,it just finishes off the vehicle nicely.

Just a few tweaks here and there and the car will be ready for its MOT.
