Breakdown in Scotland on generator / need exchange

Post by rotgnom »

Hi there,

I'm looking desperatly for a Lucas C 40 Generator. :(

we broke down in Pitlochry on our way back home to Germany.
It is not Percy our Moggy but my friends MG A.
The bearing of the generator is totally worn and the generator gets very, very hot.

Is there anybody out there who can help us with a spare Lucas C 40 generator near Pitlochry or somewhere on the way to Edinburgh??? :)

I will check this board every hour and do hope that someone can help.

Thanks

Achim

Thanks - have spoken to Brian and he pointed me towards a guy in Edinburgh. Problem is - it is Saturday night and everyone seems to be out.
I will try again later.

Call in to Biggar Classic Car Show tomorrow - sort of on your way to Edinburgh. It's HUGE - There will be plenty of autojumble stalls - and if I can find a good spare dynamo before I set off in the morning, I will throw it in the back of my white Traveller HDM 113 C. Meantime - slacken the fan belt to ease the strain on the bearing......

Hello Roy, :D
we have already done that yesterday. Now I'm waiting for someone to call back from Aviemore. If there is no dynamo, we will try to make it for the Autojumble at Biggar and have a good look out for your Traveller.
We only need the rear plate of the dynamo Lucas C 40 with its bearing, but obviously take a complete dynamo as well.
See you at Biggar or will post again tonight.
Thanks Achim

One working after some cleaning - the other is 'trying' to go - just needs some adjustment I think.

Hi there,

we made it back home to Germany today. :D :D :D
Thank you so much Roy. The MG A runs even better now with a Moggy dynamo.

It's been great to experience this kind of help. What an excellent community this Messageboard can be.
Thanks to all others who tried to help.

Sorry that I couldn't report earlier, but I didn't have access to the Internet on the journey.

Glad to hear it worked out well for you -and I hope you enjoyed the Biggar Classic show..unusually in warm sunshine.... Did you pick up any bargains in the autojumble?? I didn't see any C40 dynamos for sale in the autojumble - so it was lucky I remembered (at the very last minute) to bring that one along....
