what engine size

This engine has not got a identification tag, how can I check what size it is.( the oil in the pistons is just a ring check.)
I think Bmcecosse may give the best advice.
local police say it is just scrap in there eyes.
I think if I put a measured amount in the piston, it might tell me something.
Anyway thanks for any guide to sort this out.

Looks like 1275 Spridget engine to me.......let's see the far side..... Such faith too.....misplaced I fear....

It's just bore x stroke. Mic the bore and measure bottom of the stroke to the top in the bore. That takes care of displacement if it's been modified...

With bores that size I would say 1275. If there are no tappet chest covers on the other side then def. 1275

Good find - 1275 Spridget blocks are worth good money!!

A bare average condition MG 1275cc thick flange (mainly prefix 12V post Oct 72, 17.5mm flange where the sump bolts onto) block recently changed hands on 'e' bay for £187 pounds. The thick flange block is stiffer and the one most suitable for modification and is the one most sought after.
Most 1275cc MG engines (minus carbs/manifolds) change hands for about £450 - £700+; value of course dependent upon condition.
The engine back plate is worth £50 on its own if it is not cracked (a common problem with the 1275cc MG Midget engine). Crankshafts in good condition can fetch up to £500 and that is if you can find one. The value of the crankshaft lies in the fact that you can only regrind to -10thou, any more and the crankshaft will have to be re-heat treated.
It sounds as if you have found a bargain!
