Drivers window needs replacing

Post by woo »

I hope this hasn't been covered before.

My drivers window has developed a horizontal crack which is very slowly getting longer. At the moment it is about 2 inches long. I've looked at various manuals that show the sequence of pictures involved in replacing it, but can anybody who has done it tell me how difficult it is please? Do I attempt it myself, or get a Moggie Garage to do it?

Thanks

depends ... if you can see how you get the window frame off from the door its quite easy after that ... so long as your cardboard door liner comes off all the way round alright ... it should do  ...

the screws that hold yr frame on might be rusty or the holes might be rusty .. in either case it gives you chance to do something about it, if you take it in a garage it could start costing a few quid ....

have a go and best of xmas luck :D

Well, it's fairly easy EXCEPT the two nuts under the quarterlight! They are a right pain to get at. If you can undo those OK, then the rest is fairly easy.

Best bet is a liberal spray of PlusGas or some other dismantling spray the day before you undo the nuts, or as is my case about 2 mins before undoing!!!

If I remember correctly a 1/4" drive socket can get to the quarterlight nuts.

Yes, if you have the correct size extension bar and rachet to allow access. I had to use a UJ adapter to get my last ones undone. Took ages........

Hmm, thanks for the input folks.
I think I'll check out the quarterlight nuts and make a decision then. There are occasions when, for me, the best solution is to throw money at the problem. This might end up being one of them...

Yes, the problem is that it creeps in too silently. Still as Mark Twian said:

I must admit that solution does apply at times.
