Front wing sealer?

Hi
I’m at the point of putting the front wings back on the traveller after a respray and wonder whether some dum dum should be used between the outer and inner wings or should they just be bolted straight back on, metal to metal? There are several posts on this subject but I can’t seem to find an answer. Many thanks in advance

It would probably have been Dum - but there are probably better (and less obvious) body seam sealers around now.

Does anybody have any experience of body seam sealers and which to use. I have a bit of Dum Dum and also that 3M caulking from ESM so could use one of those, but if there is something better out there . . .
Also, would you expect to paint over the caulk once fitted, or would that be a decision you would take depending on how obvious the it looked?

We've used seam sealer between front wings and body. 3M do several - either brush on or a tube which needs pumping. Once they have cured they can be painted sprayed body colour. Paint has been there a few years now without any shrinking/cracking.

Seam sealers glue the wing on so make removal hard so I would suggest Dum Dum or the body caulking

As a matter of interest, why was is deemed ok to seal the front wings but notthe rear?
I mean, the general consensus is that it is bad to seal the rear wings hence why they used thebeading, why was this approach not used for the fronts?

on early mm's the front wings were sealed then not. not sure how effective the beading is at sealing after inner wing repairs and wing repairs/spurious wings

Ha, i couldn't agree more! Maybe just for show to cover any gaps etc in rear wings?
Can't think of any other reason why they'd do it on one but not the other.

re your traveller respray did you do the inside of the engine bay?
take the sections in to be sprayed or did you drive it along to the sprayer for him to spray the whole thing?
im just wondering what to do about mine as it will need to be sprayed at sometime

It was a rolling chassis, completely stripped down to the last grommet from the floor upwards. They collected it on a trailer and sprayed the whole thing, including the engine bay. If you are replacing the wood, then the main roof section needs to be done on the car, after all the wood is in place however, so effectively the car needed two trips to the paintshop.

Haven't done this yet, but as I understand it you would normally paint the roof before fitting, then repaint the gutter areas (or the whole roof again) after roof and gutter fitting. I imagine this is to avoid the risk of mismatching colour peeping out from the roof joining strip.
