Pickup restoration part three

the fourth test was the green power wire that goes to the wiper motor terminal 2, with the ignition on, switch pressed to on, the dc voltage setting to 20, just a 2 showed on the multimeter, with the earth probe on a bare metal bolt for good earth. same test with the ignition off showed zero on the meter. So negligable power getting to the wiper motor?[frame][/frame]

as the old motor working before

the old motor failed because the wiper rack was fouled up and caused it to short out, every time the wires were connected to it another fuse would blow, this time the fuse is still intact, but no juice is getting through.

Not sure of your particular multimeter, but the first pic appears to show an open (you have it on 2 Meg and it displays a 1 but no decimals) and the second pic shows a short (closed switch). Regardless, the next post shows no power to the motor. Sort that first, then work on the switch.

so tracing the green power wire back using the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual, I saw that it earths to a fuse I had not tested in terminal e, and this is what I saw, Bingo, 1 new fuse later and the wiper motor is working away, now to connect it all up using Bobs cardboard arrows on the wiper swivel mounts...[frame][/frame]

Thanks Dennis, how true, Bob you cardboard arrow was a superb idea, there's no way you can adjust parking with the bonnet up as there's no clearance for the actual wipers.[frame][/frame]

Due to technical difficulties with my user account... breath deeply, Ive had to re join as a sprog again. Never mind. After a few months of smooth running it's time to tackle the headlining. I got this one off ebay for a fiver, it's got two visible rips, and several gaps where it doesn't show.[frame][/frame]

after some head scratching, I love this kind of thing, I decided to use the Vinyle glue I got from ESM with my sound deadening kit, and glue patches of vinyle from an old table cloth in my "might come in handy one day", bin. using a scrap wood scraper, recognisable as an old bit of the head board above the windscreen that came with the headlining, I smeared a thin coat of glue on the patch[frame][/frame]

the patch applied to the side you don't see, the side that goes between the steel roof of course, with a clean tear you can almost make an invisible repair.[frame][/frame]

with that one I made it too short so had to add a fillet at the bottom, daft as I am, it still worked.[frame][/frame]

after removing rather corroded clip, the tear in the edge was easy to make good. Not that it shows, of course it's on the edge that hides under the joint to the timber piece at the front

The wire tensioners at either side have come in for a bit of grief, this method can fix those too, I've never seen the headlining fitted, so I may be asking a few questions from you all when it comes to fitting time.[frame][/frame]

the edges have repaired quite nicely, the wire feed channels need to be in good condition so I'm leaving the glue to harden overnight.[frame][/frame]

one the whole I'm pleased with my first bit of work on my Pickup for quite some time, I'm letting it dry overnight as I said and I'll stretch it out tomorrow in sunlight for a better shot. I've got some VHT dye spray in a can on order, got the idea from Russ H, in an old copy of Minor Monthly 2009. So I'll let you know how that goes.[frame][/frame]
