Re: Pickup restoration part three
Good news that the engine is running smoothly.I expect a number of people would be interested in learning what the fault was with the carb.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Me too Bob, so I said to this fella on the other end of the Line at Bull Motif, I said, I rang Morris minors department and they patched me through to you on the 21st of may because they had ran out of HS2 carburettors, they told me there was no difference between the Morris Minor Carb and the Mini, so I ordered one from you and Ive had nothing but trouble. Ive been trying everything for two months and no luck till I replaced the old Carb.
So what Needle size do you have in the old Carb? he said, you can re time it all day long, but with the wrong needle it will never tune up correctly. I was lost for words.[frame]

so would be interesting o put the new needle in the old carb
Re: Pickup restoration part three
I phoned Bull Motif once for a LCV Panel. It wasn't in stock,I asked when do you think you will be getting some, dunno was the reply. Since then, after such a great display of service...it's always been ESM for me. Great service, and quality parts. Looking forward to steel (new line) front and rear valences, from them,as displayed at the National.A friendly, and sympathetic voice is the face of your business,I've always found one at ESM. I give you no Bull, when, when I say,it's ESM for medavidmiles wrote:Me too Bob, so I said to this fella on the other end of the Line at Bull Motif, I said, I rang Morris minors department and they patched me through to you on the 21st of may because they had ran out of HS2 carburettors, they told me there was no difference between the Morris Minor Carb and the Mini, so I ordered one from you and Ive had nothing but trouble. Re: Pickup restoration part three
Yes I'm inclined to agree, I only wanted to upgrade the Carb because the adjustment nut that controls mixture was screwed up tight to the top against the bridge with no further adjustment possible. anyway done now, she's running smoothly today with good acceleration and lots of power. So what sort of needle did the mini section of Bull Motif supply the new Carb with.[frame]

here it is in close up AN, standard. what you would expect I guess. what my old carb has is the next question, but that's not going to be answered for a bit, she's running as smoothly as I've ever had it, so I'm just going to enjoy driving her for a couple of weeks before I have to get down to freeing up the wiper box's ect and get those wipers working again[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
As Dennis said earlier, fitting the new needle in the old carb would confirm its guilt or not!

Re: Pickup restoration part three
fantastic long hard drive today across Sussex From east to west touching the kent and Hampshire Borders either side. She performed well, I took two bottles of water but she didn't lose a single drop, Oil was another story, she lost less that half a pint of oil every two hours. I can cope with that, it was a lot worse before the last engine lift and scroll seal and oil pump gasket changes.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
So one ESM visit later and I have a newly rebuilt wiper motor. Just need to re- assemble it, and free up the rack, it's jambed solid, wont move, the wipers will move by hand but the rack that joins the motor won't. I'm going to free it up tomorrow and get it all working

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Dave
I've PM you.
Put plenty of LM grease around all the moving parts. Not too much that the gear wheel can't turn !
Remember the self parking dome must go inside the motor body cover BEFORE you solder/ crimp the Red wire
to the dome. Then connect up / screw down, etc.
It will be the rack that is jammed in the wheel boxes / tubes because of worn spindle gear wheels, loose bolts, etc.

The adjusting screw ( bottom of your picture,in line with the threaded worm drive ) should allow for end play of 0.008 to 0.012 in ( 0.203 to 0.305 mm ) to the armature.
I know you don't have an Imperial feeler gauge , so I'd just check that you have a " little " movement , before greasing up.
If you can't turn it by hand it's too tight.A half/ single turn might just free it off enough. The happy medium between binding and
flapping around in the breeze. You will hear the noise if it's too loose.
When you pull the cable out of the tubes/ wiper boxes have a few sheets of paper laid out on the ground and rags to grab it with.Otherwise vinyl / rubber gloves.A bit of rag, over the wing edge, is good too.A good degrease and re-grease if the cable looks good for further use.
Once it's free, the cable has a mind of it's own....like an angry snake you've just disturbed...so beware/ prepared.Snake charming skills come in useful.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Thanks for that Bob, I'd wondered if I needed to withdraw the whole rack from the tubes, you've just answered my question.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
this right hand wheel box is holding the cable at an angle, needs further investigation...[frame]
[/frame]
with the wobbly snake withdrawn, a clear kink can be seen, the wheelbox was holding it at an awkward angle[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
and this could be why, I couldn't find any of the manufactured angle setters so I cut this out of a suspension bush, but it's not very accurate, so I got onto ESM and they had never heard of them.[frame]
[/frame]
So this is my answer, Ive ordered two more chrome embellishers to go on the wheels boxes under the dash to hold it in position at 45' degrees to the wiper rack. The wheels turn freely and I have a spare rack, so as soon as the extra embellishers arrive I'll connect it all up and see if it moves freely.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
this is quite a good shot showing the embellisher bolted up under the dash holding the wheel box in position[frame]
[/frame]
the embellisher is much smaller than the rubber bush I was using, so it has the desired consequence of raising the wheel box level with the curved former that the tube rests in.[frame]
[/frame]
not sure about this though, the external embellisher when bolted up, is it showing too much thread?[frame]

Dave
Are the teeth on the wheel box photo from 3.00 o'clock to 6.00 o'clock still there buried under the grease or is it worn ?
Would spares for a classic mini do the job does anyone know ? The part 37H7201.... described either as a Wiper Bush Kit or " wheel box spacer - rubber black " on some websites, seems to be what is required.
www.minimail.co.uk sell them for £1.70 each plus VAT and carriage.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Dennis you're right they will fowl the bonnet, I will add washers to the inside to take the wheels box down a few mil.
Bob I did a double take there, they do look worn in that picture, it was only when I rotated the wheel that the teeth came around, they look fine, must have been the reflections caused by the grease[frame]
