Renewed my policy, good rates as usual.
Look out if you are moving house though,there is a £20.00 fee for the address change.
£20.00 for an address change?

That is a rip off, there is no way you can justify charging an admin fee (which I'm sure is the phrase they'll use) to over-type an address on the computer!
I'm sure they'll come up with some excuse though............

This is unfortunately standard FJ have just charged me £25 to change the address on a two week old policy!

I suppose the have to make money somehow?

I was charged £35 by 'Hastings Direct' when we changed the 'modern ' - no extra for the car change - just the admin fee..... I use a different company now. As far as I can see RH don't make ANY admin charges. I add my TR7 every year - and take it off again at end of summer - and never an admin fee so far anyway! I really don'y know why people put up with the other companies and the steady stream of 'stories' we hear......

It's only a couple of days ago that the AA was claiming that car insurance has REDUCED in price by around 10%. I hope that the companies are taking notice. Perhaps the basic premium has gone down, but then they add on payment fees, transaction fees, admin fees, document fees, postage fees, talking-to-you fees, and anything else that they can think of - I hope that I haven't given them any ideas

A change of address is not just a re-type on the computer - it rather depends on the particular underwiter.
Some will re-run their risk analysis with the new details and re-check various databases, but appears to get an inflated costs as part of the way insurance companies pay their bills.

The worst I've had for change of details was £40 on a modern - which is pretty hard to justify!

This has always been a bugbear of mine. When you used to buy comprehensive it was just that.
Now everything is extra Ryanair style.
Years ago I could understand a fee as we didn't use computers and everything literally had to be done by hand and paper,postage etc.
Now it only takes seconds and all the info is available to hand.
An admin fee for some sort of change has always been there but you would think in this day and age it would be cheaper

Hear Hear!
This one will hopefully stay at the top of the message board,as I did state that the only way I could get satisfaction was to post the details on this website, if they insisted on charging the fee.
Next year of course I shall again shop around,in the meantime this is probably the only way to keep the pressure on all insurance companies with avarice at the top of their agenda.

As much of an iniquity as so-called 'booking fees' on legitimate concert tickets, which make ticket touting seem transparent and above board.

I've also heard from another source that RH Insurance don't charge admin fees for making minor changes, nor do they impose age penalties on older customers.

I've just changed my classic car policy from Footman to RH - very competitive and helpful and can confirm that they told me there is no admin fee for changing a car on the policy and would assume that there is no charge for a change of address

With RH it is also worth paying the £10 extra for legal protection. That helped me get my excess back in 2008 for the Claim on my Traveller. (Fortunately better than ever after our "no fault" accident! cheers John
