Windscreen Size ??

Post by Andysdad »

Hi,
Are there different windscreen sizes ? I bought some metal windscreen trim from a '63 two door minor for my '71 Traveller. When originally checked for size I thought it was fine but on closer inspection the replacement trim is about 20mm 'taller' than my original plastic trim.
I am currently thinking of cutting the sides to shorten them as the profile seems correct. :-?

Windscreen size never changed - but later cars do use a thinner plastic trim insert.

There are different screen rubbers for the metal type insert and for the plastic chrome trim.

Thanks guys but this still leaves me with a mystery. If I line up the 'replacement' insert at the bottom , it is a good 20mm higher at the top. Whilst I wouldn't disagree with either of your comments(I wouldn't dare!!) I can't see how it can be that far out?
Not major as I can either get plastic replacement or just leave it, I felt sure that someone would confirm that the screens did alter in size but obviously not.
Cheers

Further to my comments above, I have just worked out how to post a picture.[frame]Image[/frame]

I think the size difference is down to the fact that the earlier chrome finisher fits to the outer edge of the rubber whereas the later plastic insert fits inside the rubber.

.... and you also have to fit the chrome/stainless insert into the screen rubber before you put the screen in the car. With the plastic insert, you can fit the screen finisher once the windscreen is fitted to the car. :-)

That's not good news. I was planning to try, with it in situ. If I can't they might be up for sale in the near future.
