Setting Tappets

Post by oddbod »

When setting tappets I know I adjust by rule of 9, BUT, do I adjust 8 when spring is compressed on 1, or when spring is open on 1?? Simple question I know, but I'd like to be sure :D

when the one your going to adjust is open i.e. the valve is closed,

if it's compressed then you can't get feelers in ,good luck :D

Have been waiting for Bmc to correct you but no sign of him doing so yet so me being pedantic there are no tappets in a Minor OHV engine only cam followers, rockers and valve clearances if that is what you are working on.

 Been away from computer for a few hours........ As above - no 'tappets'. And yes - adjust #1 when #8 is compressed (1 +8 = 9) etc , and so on. My strong recommendation is 15 thou on the exhausts - and 12 thou on the inlets.
