roof lining

Can someone tell me the best way to clean the roof lining, it is badly stained poss, cigerette smoke. I have tied stardrops to no effect, i was wondering if it could be painted, if so, what type of paint. i just want it to look clean, not bothered about originality. boydogs

I don't know if it's the best way but I've used some flash or washing powder in a bucket of water and a soft nailbrush.
