Used Minor Id plates

Post by Romeo »

Hi
I see the Id plates off scrapped cars have reappeared on fleabay
I have reported them to eBay again
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Minor- ... 5658a6803f

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Minor- ... 5658a67f4e

Please report these plates to make sure the seller and ebay get the message that they encourage fraud and theft

Regards Dave

Reported, well spotted Dave.... this is bad, esp with the amount of stolen classics at the minute...

Did anyone persue that collection of 15 Traveller's in Worcester?

First 2 on sale had, (Ahem) 'issues'.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

For that or any plate to be "usefull" it would have to be linked with a V5 logbook and a Reg number.
Anyone could extract those numbers from that listing photo or any other source and just make a blank one up or get it done.
It would however be naughty of the seller to produce a V5 when you bought the plate.
Really a purchaser needs to know what happened to the origonal physical car relating to that plate!

Well I asked the seller if he had the v5 and what was the reg number.also what haapened to the actuall physical vehicle.
His reply was

Copy & pasted:

"As stated in the listing the car was scrapped.

This happened in the 1990's and I don't have the registration or any other details for the car.

Regards"!

So he's not selling any identity, just a piece of stamped tin from 1955 ish

Often wondered whether the identities from any of the rf60 buff log books
available on e-bay have managed to be re-issued!

I or anyone can apply for a V5/logbook for your car. we just send off an application. Upon receipt of our application DVLA then write to that vehicles registered keeper (in this case you) informing you that someone (not naming us/me) has applied for a V5 document for this vehicle currently registered to you. If you don't reply within (IIRC about 28 days) then DVLA will issue a V5 in my/our name.

A V5 or logbook is not proof of ownership, just a registered keeper. The V5 belongs to DVLA

Glad we can now date Minor's by their body numbers - rather than
relying on a bit of tin that can swopped about willy-nilly!
