front ride height

I know its been covered many times before... but how much height is gained or lost by rotating the torsion bar by 1 spline?

1" if you rotate the front arm on the t.bar or 1/4" if you move the plate at the xmember.

Thanks Jeff... 2 splines at the front it is then...

(Car was about 1.5" high anyway and its now got a slightly lighter engine, mounted further back)

That may be too much - one spline is nearer 1.5" - and it's a big mistake to sit the car too low.

Do one spline at a time and try it on the road to let the suspension settle. I had mine riding on the bumps stops and it isn't comfortable and can't do the inner wings much good.

It hasn't got an MOT at the moment and I'm meant to be going drag racing this weekend...

As its set up at the moment its riding at least 3" high at the front anyway. The 185/65/14s look absolutely lost in the wheelarch (incidently the wings arn't on at the moment either ) You can easily see the whole car points up hill!

This pic is when it was on 13" wheels... but im sure you can see the front is too high!

For 'racing' you can obviously go lower. But the suspension WILL settle with use. I thought my Trav was sitting too high after recent work (despite bouncing on the wing...) and I lowered the car one spline - took it out for a run - and it ended up too low.....so had to raise it up the spline again! Double work.....grrrrrrr.

That is the settled position in that photo... its done at least 25,000 miles since then and its in the same position

Sitting low is not a major problem if the top bump stops & inner wings are ok.
If the inner wing is rotten - it will at least be very obvious when you hit a speed hump, as you'll have extra ventilation in the engine bay ;-)

You can trim a little off the bump stops to get a little more freedom before hitting too.

From your picture, I'd go 2 splines. But then I like them low ;)

It looks not too bad considering the 13" wheels etc. Too low is miserable to drive - with constant thump as it hits the bump stops - and if that happens at speed on a corner - it REALLY upsets the handling.......don't ask me how I know........
