Howling brakes

New front shoes fitted only 300 miles ago and the noise is so loud I can hear the daughter coming home 10 minutes before she arrives!

Lousy linings from Bull Motif or dust build up (surely not already) ?

Clean it out and adjust up the brakes again. The shoes will have bedded in. Unless the vacuum cleaner has HEPA filtration - don't use it. Wet cloth is best - even with modern 'non-asbestos' shoes - any dust is bad news - treat it with due respect. If the problem persists - try swapping the shoes side to side...... Also make sure the squeal isn't caused by the springs rubbing against the hub!

Miss C.J. has just arrived home. Heard the car/brakes before it arrived....again.

Seems my maintenance work on Saturday was only a temporary fix.

No noise with the old shoes even though they were well worn.

I know BM', that on my other current wheel nut 'n' stud thread, that you said the heavily scored drums aren't really a bad thing, but could this possibly be the reason for the squeak problem do you think?

Where did you get the new shoes??? Am I right in thinking it was fine with the old shoes?? Take it out and USE the brakes - over and over again until they smell strongly and fade.... Then let them cool with gentle driving. Will probably then need adjusting - so don't do it late in the evening if car needed next morning. It may help. And look (or ask on here) for a set of 8" front brakes....urgently!

That's more than likely the same company who supplied me with the C3 tolerance rear hub bearing which is not fit for purpose.
