Escutcheon and Fuel filler surround

The escutcheon on my passenger door handle has come loose. I can see one end is held in place by a tab that hooks behind the door skin but what should attach to the peg end to keep it secure? Should it be held in place by a starlock washer?

Also, what's the best way of fixing the external rubber collar around the fuel filler on a Traveller to the panel? Should it just be glued in place?

Your help, as ever, is appreciated.

the door escutcheon is not held in place by a star washer, esm are selling panel clips

but in doors i have taken apart I have always found a circular clip with two raised edges that you twist / screw onto the peg.. i will try and find one and take a photo for you as it is not easiest thing to describe.

I can't see from the thread what sealant was used though and I refuse to use silicone, so further thoughts welcome.

If you're Silicone averse, I'd try some Plumber's Mait non setting sealant.Easy to apply, not as messy to apply, roll a "sausage " of the stuff, as if you were putting in a pane of glass in a wooden window.

Release the jubilee clips on the lower rubber join, fuel tank end, so that it is just gripping.Adjust to the optimum position where the filler end is , i.e rubber sitting flat nicely, not distorted and the filler pipe not connecting with bodywork.
Put a bit of tape on the metal tube, at the point where the rubber tube starts.Tighten the clip nearest the tank, slacken off the upper clip and remove metal tube / filler complete.( you may find you have enough room without removing, so check )
Put your mastic on and gently re-insert the metal tube, until the masking tape guides you back to the correct position.
If it's difficult re-inserting put a little smear of vaseline on the metal pipe.Push the sealant down into position.Tighten up clips, etc job done.
Usual safety noises.. disconnect battery before commencing work, fire extinguisher to hand, no smoking, striking of matches , etc. etc.

Thanks Bob, hadn't thought of plumber's mait. I have a tub of it that I bought for a job once and never used, so will give that a try.


Unfortunately didn't rear safety tips first and burned the house down whilst trying to light my pipe using a spark from the battery to ignite the fuel vapour Only kidding, good safety advice! ( ... anyway, I don't smoke..........except after you-know-what but I've been told that Vaseline can also be used help to reduce friction )

There is very little clearance from the window - I used a short piece of washer tubing - with a spot of glue to make sure it didn't come off. I found 'panel clips' were knocked off by the window.
