I've got a 1955 split screen Moggy with a 1098 engine. The overheating warning light has never come on, so I was trying to test it to see if bulb was faulty. I cant find a sensor anywhere or a wire going anywhere which looks like a heat sensor. I haven't had the car long so be patient with me....
1. where should I find / should be a sensor
2. Should the warning lamp light up when I turn on the ignition
3. How should I install a sensor and how do I wire it up
Thanks very much, hope I made sense
Regards Gab

Re: Overheating Warning Light
There is no 'over heat' warning on a Minor! What is the problem you are having?
With a 1098 you can very easily fit a water temperature gauge, but unless there is something very seriously wrong, Minors are overcooled so can run 'cold', not 'hot'.

Re: Overheating Warning Light
Thanks Richard, sorry for my lack of knowledge. What is the tiny orange light on the left hand side of speedo for? I just assumed it was a overheating light! At this moment in time the car is running find, but as I haven't owned one before I trying to make sure everything is working and find my way around her..... So Moggies don't overheat then? how strange....

Re: Overheating Warning Light
Gabrieal,
The orange light on the left hand side of the speedo is connected to a switch on the oil filter housing and will light up if the filter is blocked. That is the original arrangement on some 1098 engine cars.
When you turn on the ignition, which lights come on? There should be 2 - the red to the right, the ignition warning/charging light and the orange to the right, which is the low oil pressure warning light. Both should go out once the engine is running (the red ignition light can flicker slightly at low revs if you still have a dynamo fitted).
What do you get when you turn the ignition on?
Minors can overheat, but only if something is seriously wrong, otherwise not all.

Richard, that is assuming that the speedo has also been changed to a black one.
What speedo is fitted and what is the serial number followed by the 4 fig TPM?

Re: Overheating Warning Light
Hi Richard, yes I have one red and one orange light on the right side which work as they should. I didn't know about the oil filter light, but do now. Thanks very much for this insight into the Minors ability to stay cool.
