engine what type?

Post by BertMorris »

hello Minor fans,
I saw a Minor 1000 from 1966 with engine nummer prefix RKH1105E. Does anyone know what engine this is. I think its not the right one for this Minor, what is the size?
Thanks
Bert

That's a recon engine number so can't tell. Any pics? or look to see if there are any numbers cast into the block under the exhaust manifold.

Why does it matter? The engine is just about the least important aspect of any Minor!! Be happy if it starts and runs without clouds of smoke - or nasty rattles.....

In my opinion it does matter. In a Minor from 1966 there must be a 1098 engine, the best the original one or at least a recon of the same size.
What is the meaning of all these lettres and figures in RKH1105e?

The letters you are quoting are not from an original BMC engine series. Do you have some photos of the engine, including one taken from the exhaust side looking at the front half of the engine. There are markings there that should help to identify the basic capacity of the engine for you.

I say it doesn't 'matter' - in the sense that if buying a car - there are much more important features to worry about ie RUST and/or previous accident damage. At worst -the engine can be made 'like new' or changed for another very cheaply compared to the cost of body repairs. So - as long as the car runs - worry about the bodyshell because that's what makes or breaks a car.

The bodyshell is in totaly perfect condition, so no worry about that. the car runs very well. But the right engine is the finishing touch for a perfect car for me.

If it's an 1100cc engine then it is the "right"engine. The Number you quote is the number allocated to it when it was remanufactured, unfortunately it would be very difficult if not impossible to find out by who. If it runs fine don't worry about it. Very few Minors have the original engine and gearboxes they were fitted with when they left Cowley.

John
