Socket Size
Can anyone please advise the exact socket size for the Steering Wheel retaining nut on a 1970 2 door Minor 1000.
Tried a friends 32mm socket, but not big enough.I am happy to buy one, but do not really want to buy one and find it is the wrong size.

Re: Socket Size
If you don't source a 3/4" Whit, then there is a metric identical equivalent (e.g. on a Sunday afternoon when you get stuck and think about buying a socket from halfords etc..)
3/4" Whit = 33mm Metric.
The same size also fits the plug at the back of the master cylinder (e.g. when fitting a remote reservoir kit) but not a great deal else on the car.
If you intend remove the steering wheel nut with a socket, it is really worthwhile to remove the hornpush wire support. The plastic sleve can get caught inside the square drive of the socket and any subsequent misalignment can break the sleeve.

Re: Socket Size
very good point - however that would need a deep socket.
I use a ring spanner for the starter dog (and crack it with the starter motor)

Deeps socket also gets round the horn problem on the steering wheel nut.rayofleamington wrote:very good point - however that would need a deep socket.

This is actually 1 & 1/8 Whitworth but 1& 7/8 AF is a good fit
