I will be mounting a new 1275 so I've been reading about rubber engine mounts. I first purchased a pair from ESM about two months ago but people have written that the ESM ones are too hard and cause engine vibration. Today I received a pair from BM that are supposed to be softer. I can't tell any difference. Both seem pretty hard and I think they are from the same manufacturer. Maybe both are the new softer version? The last engine I installed was a 302 Ford V8 and it's mounts seemed a little softer.

all normally to hard if you have them put back the originals

The BM ones come with nuts! Seriously - if they are too hard it should be possible to soften them by drilling holes through the rubber - keeping away from the attachment to the plates of course. I suggest several small diameter holes would be best.

I have experience of this one! Fitted ESM engine mounts with my 1275 a while ago and ever since had a horrible vibration that I couldn't diagnose. Changed the bottom pully, waterpump, checked the clutch was okay, and in the end decided it must be the mounts. Fitted BM as they advertise their mounts being the correct grade, implying others were not. They were very slightly softer to touch, but not by much. Anyway, they are loads better fitted. The vibration has completely gone now. Also they seem better made, the ESM ones had the threads slightly wonky and split after a couple of months.

Nuts were indeed extra. When I first got the BM mounts I did think they were softer but then I rechecked the ESM ones. To be sure, I did a test where I closed my eyes and swapped them back and forth between my hands. I then pressed my thumbnail into each one, made a judgement, and opened my eyes. I did it four times and the score was 2:2.

I think Roy has the right idea, I'll drill very narrow holes in them.

Fair enough, I know that mine made a big difference when fitted though, so I'd give them a try before drilling, you can always drill them in situ if need be.

If the mounts are fitted and tightened up without letting the engine 'settle down' - they may be sitting in a strained position. So could be worth just running with the nuts (extra?? Geeezzz and I bet metric so not everyone will have them in stock..) slightly loose for a few days.
