hi, ive just got a matching pair of guages, (oil pressure and water temp) they are both mechanical, (capillary).
now fitted the oil pressure guage via a tee piece, and all went well, ive got 50 psi on hot tick over, and about 70 psi when driving, ( at about 60 mph), dont have a tacho, so not sure of the revs, but its a standard 1098 engine and gearbox, do these figures seem about right, 175 psi in all 4 pots.
tried to fit the water temp guage, got the blanking plug out, only to find all three supplied adapters do not fit, the middle size one is about the right size but the tread looks courser, didnt notice when i got this pair that they originaly came from america, thus the tread problem !!, does any one no where i can get the correct adaptor to fit into the head, and will i be able to get around the miss match with the locking nut, any help appreciated.
many thanks steve

Gauge and thread...... I had to make an adapter to suit - that was 10 years ago, still not found the time to fit it...
I would have thought American threads would suit - have you compared closely with the plug you removed? Oil pressure is fine BTW. And 175 compression is exceptionally good for a standard 1098......

Steve
http://www.holden.co.uk do a variety of adapters .....search on " temperature senders" .... a couple pages to cover most solutions.
There are other suppliers and a lot of the classic Mini spares suppliers carry quite a range.
Are they American gauges or British ?

thanks for that, the treads on the adaptor look deeper and more course, if you get my meaning, ive cleaned out the tapping in the head incase of any debry or rust ect, is stopping it going in, and tried gently by hand to insert the adaptor but it just wont bite, and do not want to damage the treads in the head. regards steve

Bob, the guages were made in america, the adaptors for the pressure gauge fitted to the tee piece straight away, ran it up good pressure and no leaks, i will try the web site you sent, regards steve
