indicator stalk temptomental

Post by hanvyj »

The little green light flashing on the indicator stalk has stopped working about 90% of the time. I took the plastic surround off but can't find anything obviously loose after a good prod.

I can see the wire going to the stalk, I assume it completes the circuit by making contact with an earth, but which part is does it?

Have you tried a new lamp? Sometimes the blob of solder on the end of the lamp flattens and doesn't make a good contact.

Are you sure the flashers are working correctly?

I haven't tried a new bulb (couldn't get the one out of the other car and didn't want to break it). Given that it works sometimes I didn't think anything could be wrong other than it being blown, I'll try again at swapping them and see if it helps.

Yes, the indicators work fine - I've tested them multiple times (being paranoid about it) but they have never stopped working, even when the stalk is completely dead.

I have exactly the same problem, but only when the indicator stalk is down ( when turning right) Lamp does not work, but the indicators work fine. The lamp works fine when in the 'up' position however. I just put it down as one of her 'things', but in reality, I assume its an earth or contact in the stalk itself?

It could be the wire that goes down the stalk. There may be an internal break in the copper that sometimes touches and sometimes doesn't, depending in the stalk position. It is possible to solder in a new one.
The earth contact to the stalk is made via a spring under the lamp base.
