Indicators on a morris with trafficators!
Hi all, just got a morris minor 1955 split screen with trafficators but no indicators. I would like to know the best way to install rear indicators which work when I use the trafficators..... is this possible? if so how and what would I need to do this?
Many regards Gabrieal

Hi, you can fit indicators and still have the trafficators work without flashing. You need to put a flasher unit on each side of the circuit so that it by passes the trafficator. There is a wiring diagram on the messageboard somewhere. Basically add your rear lights on, a bracket hung below the bumper I think is the neatest way and you can use a stop tail type bulb holder from a traveller in the front sidelight and still retain the original lens if you want. I have this done on my traveller.

Thank you david. The flasher unit I use, should it be from a later morris?

Re: Indicators on a morris with trafficators!
I used the same as a minor 1000 flasher with traveller rear type of bulb holders and lens. I stuck to the lucas stuff as I had previously tried on the lowlight some motorbike repeaters that I bought from ebay with more modern flasher units but found the bulbs kept blowing.
If you want to retain the front sidelight use this type that has the longer body so the bulb sits a little further in

You will need 2 x 42W two pin flashers. Tape them together behind the dash

This is where I put mine, one is over 40 years old and the other is new, easy to get to if necessary

I'm not sure, I don't understand that sort of thing. I just did a bench check before installation. even then, I had to swap them after installation.

Gabrieal,
In your original post you ask about fitting rear flashing indicators? The flasher units each need to have the load of 2 x 21w bulbs, so you will need to fit front flashers as well (or at least wire in a second bulb for each side and hide it somewhere).
