Hi Steve
I think when Andrew got it, Brian Gosling had looked at the traveller and said it's a 54 - (probably early 54)
- as for the logbook.... :-? I don't think it all ties up.

F = Morris
L = Traveller
B = Light grey
1 = RHD home
6 = Cellulose body/synthetic wings
If those first 5 characters are correct, but the chassis number is not right, possibly a number adrift/missing somewhere. First Traveller 30/09/53 at number 216901 and first 948cc traveller 25/09/56 at number 448801.

the chassis number is not right,
I think that's the bit you are missing :-(
When I looked at it, the chassis number matched the logbook, but not the car.

No idea about the two paint finishes, will do a bit of reading, someone else could know why, but if the 6 is correct it is the option that corresponds with the number. However checking the plate on my '57 Traveller that 6 (if it's correct) should be to the left of the /. The identification of mine is FLA11/499xxx. A = black, 1 = RHD Home and 1 for synthetic paint.
As Ray say's there's something amiss with the car number. Should be six figures, the first 430 may be correct though.

number

Post by Willie »

STEVE.. the engine number 10D is from an Austin A40 mark 2.
I read the FLB1 as: Morris Minor, Traveller ,Light Grey, RHD home
model.
You are missing a digit after the FLB1 which would denote the paint
finish. HOWEVER....if you swopped the original engine number and
the last five digits of the chassis number they would both then give
a date around October 1953!! Then the 6 would indicate cellulose
with synthetic wings as 57 has indicated?? Sort the bones out of that!
