Crikey Yan, if that water gets higher those properties will get flooded. Hope their ok. I may have to take my engine out to get at the rear seals, and I can't replace the oil pressure release valve unless I get the lump out. I won't start until I've a plan, parts, and time to do it properly

Ive re-tightened the chest inspection cover, after it showed signs of an oil leak, so Ive narrowed the oil loss to the rear scroll seal/ oil pump area, I think it's leaking into the bell housing and leaking out between the rear of the engine and the gearbox where they join, there is evidence in this image of oil leaking from the rubber blank too.[frame]Image[/frame]

scrolling back to part two about page 50, where I worked on the rear of the engine and the plate, here is the source of my troublesom leak, there is clear evidence I didn't understand at the time, of oil leaking down from the oil pump. When I get the engine out later this summer, I'll change the Core plugs, oil pressure release valve among other things.[frame]Image[/frame]

But it won't stop me driving her in the meantime, just make sure I take a spare litre of engine oil with me for a top up.[frame]Image[/frame]

Coming through Lodsworth in West Sussex Near Petworth saw this unusual little beauty.[frame]Image[/frame]

fantastic.[frame]Image[/frame]

David
Any clues as to what it was ?
Never seen one like that before !! Radiator at the back of the engine.... must be foreign.
Certainly interesting.

No Ideas there Bob, it's got to be from the early days of motor racing in the 1920's?
Enjoying the nice weather and the country roads at the moment, it's a countdown to the major overhaul. Lots of new shiney bits on order from ESM, including a new oil pump and seals/gaskets.[frame]Image[/frame]

out at last, amazing how well this little car is designed, one man can do the lot, with no help. All this in one day, well, my mum popped around for a cup of tea and a chat, but apart from that, we're on schedule[frame]Image[/frame]

Hi Bob, any last minute advice on what to look out for before this lot goes back in tommorow. I'm wondering if Ive ordered all the right parts. We'll see. for now the oil pressure relief valve was in for some attention, it's hard to get at with the engine in.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

the new spring is only about 10mm longer, so I needn't have worried, but now it's out, time for a renewal.[frame]Image[/frame]

Notice how clean that rear plate is, there's no sign what so ever of a the leak from the rear of the engine I was expecting to see, the inside of the gearbox bellhousing was clean as a whistle. Am I on a wild goose chase looking for this oil leak?

I think you'll find the oily bits are behind the plate!

David
I was out of the house for a very long day yesterday so just catching up with the posts.
Did you get a new washer with the oil pressure relief valve to re-fit ? Highly recommended.Clean out any muck in the bore it sits in.
I'd give the face of the flywheel a light rub with emery paper to get rid of any surface rust.A couple of drips of oil as lubrication
if you wish and then a wash down with meths ( in a garden hand held spray, my favourite clean up weapon for oilly hands tools, etc ) and a clean rag/ kitchen paper. The second lock tab looks as though it's " seen some action " I'd inspect it closely and if the metal is weak... renew now whilst it's all apart.

I agree with Les see whats behind the panel.

thanks Les and Bob, good advice on the other bits Bob cheers, you were both correct, when the rear plate came off the evidence of substantial oil leak from the oil pump was plain to see.[frame]Image[/frame]
