electronic fuel pump set up

Post by chilly »

Has anybody fitted the electronic fuel pump conversion kit?
I've got an electronic pump but I'm not sure whether it's set up correctly. I need to know how to position the metal bar (circled in red) relative to the magnet on the diaphram shaft. It's moveable in an arc from the post it mounts on.
I've been onto SU who say the instructions should be on their website but I can't find them!
I assume the conversion kits come with instructions and it's these that I wouldn't mind a look at.
Or indeed, if someone could just tell me the position, that would be great.
Cheers

Back to your suppliers for a precise location on their website ( I can't trace it either ).
Alternatively get them to put a copy of the fitting instructions in the post.Surely the instructions ought to have been included in the kit supplied.

No, mine was bought as an electronic pump. I went into it and slackened off the screw that sets the position of the metal plate. It moved and I could do with knowing where it should sit relative to the magnet on end of the shaft.

The best picture I can find of one assembled is this;[frame]Image[/frame]
Not much help I'm afraid.

Looking at http://www.sucarb.co.uk I went for AUA25 Fuel Pump Electronic..Negative Earth.picture /diagram
Scrolling down to the Components List shows an illustration of the parts...holding the mouse over the diagram magnifies the detail.
It looks to me that the metal plate should be "vertical", in line with the filter union and the outlet union.....see what you think.

Thanks Bob, I hadn't found that area of their site before.
It still isn't a definitive answer though is it?. I would have thought the plate's relation to the magnet was pretty critical.
As an aside, the prices on the SU site are high aren't they. You can get the pumps off ESM for much less.

Definitive answer ? No. I suggest you phone your suppliers on Monday to get the answer you are seeking.

Burlen Fuel System prices aren't cheap but the quality of their goods and service are first rate.I've never had a problem with various overhaul / spares kits, etc ( for a variety of cars ) that they have supplied.Technical advice over the phone has been first rate.

ESM are a good supplier and I've used them over the years, just for the record.

The Internet works on two levels for me, sourcing the cheapest price/ delivery costs/ guarantees/ backup services.etc and finding out information on another level.Value for money isn't dictated by price alone for me.
You often want to know what does it look like, how does it work, wiring diagrams, parts and spares diagrams, parts numbers, user instructions, etc.Occaisionally you get a supplier who "ticks all the boxes " for a particular product, if you're lucky.
Best of luck with resolving the problem.

Why did you take it to bits? In this age of the digital camera - always wise to take pictures before dismantling anything you are not 100% familiar with.
