St. Georges day. English and proud of it.

Though don't tell the PC brigade, liberal left elite or the thought police I said so.......................

Happy St. Georges day to one and all.
Mike.

Should be a bank holiday, or nearest Friday.

You're right, they should all be bank holidays and we should be proud of who we are and our heritage!! :D
For the record I think Scotland, Ireland and Wales are beautiful countries, celebrate who you are! :D

What is done is done.
And was done in the climate, both political and social, of the times that a particular piece of history happened in.
It is neither right nor fair to judge our ancestors by modern standards.

Unfortunately some view being proud of being English and proud of your countries heritage as suspicious and that the person concerned needs to be 're-educated'.................. (or lectured to about 'England's evil past')...........

No they (there have been several occasions) were white, educated, members of our new 'British' society (they don't use the word 'English' anymore in case it offends some of the 'minorities' which we once 'subjugated' with our 'evil empire' and which we now play host to in this country....).
Witness the occasions in the past, which have appeared in the press, when we have been told to take down the English flag of St. George by councils in case it offends people, I include myself in this (never made the papers though, so no 15 minutes of fame  ), as I used to fly the flag outside my bedroom window but was told to remove it as it offended an 'ethnic' person.
Now I am not a racist before we go down that route but I will not apologise for my heritage or culture either, nor by that token for my countries history.
Which I guess makes me an embarrassment to the new 'enlightened' elite that have been running this country for several decades now................ for better or worse........

I'll get off my soapbox now, I've said my piece.

I think you touched a nerve :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_George

Saint George (c. 275/281 – 23 April 303 AD) was a Greek who became an officer in the Roman army. His father was the Greek Gerondios from Cappadocia Asia Minor and his mother was from the city Lydda. Lydda was a Greek city in Palestine.
